Residents of Igbogbo on Monday trooped out in their large numbers to take advantage of the free medical initiative commemorating the 10th coronation anniversary of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Barr.) Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo.
The medical outreach which held at the Adeboruwa Palace offered hundreds of residents the opportunity to be screened for various diseases or ailments, received health education, referral and free drugs.
The week-long anniversary kicked – off on Sunday with Iwure (traditional prayers) at the Adeboruwa Palace.
Oba Kasali speaking after assessing the free medical exercise with other dignitaries, said that it is a way of giving back to the community.
”It’s a way of giving back to the community, and complementing government efforts to ensuring that we have healthy citizens.
”The little that we have done here today is to assist our people, and give them the opportunity to look into their well-being and you know, complement government’s efforts towards ensuring that citizens are healthy.”
The royal father also expressed his satisfaction at the turnout.
”I’m quite impressed with the turnout of people to take full benefit of the opportunities that have been created today. They have the opportunity of meeting doctors, who are from different fields that have come around to attend to their needs.”
” And, to back it up is the provision of drugs that have been made available as part of the programme and you can see the relief on their faces and how people appreciated the little effort that we have extended to to them,” Kabiyesi said.
The chairman, medical sub committee of the coronation anniversary, Dr Adeleke Dankuwo, speaking with THE IMPACT, explained the process of the outreach and added that cases of HIV were detected during the screenings.
”We are screening to detect and also to treat both communicable and non-communicabe diseases. As you can see, we are checking people’s blood pressure, sugar, and also checking them for HIV, Hepatitis B, malaria, typhoid, and a whole lot of diseases. We also have health education.”
He stated that some cases of HIV were detected during the screening and victims have been referred for further medical care.
”People have benefited a lot and we have, for example, we have, so far discovered three to four people that are HIV positive, and such people have been sent for further care to the General Hospital because it’s a free service.
”The people of Igbogbo must ensure that they seek appropriate medical care whenever they are sick, and there are various health facilities within the community where they can access good care. They must also fully comply with medication prescribed to them.”
Some of the beneficiaries commended the initiative.
Mrs Kemi Odunlami, resident of Igbogbo, who complained about eye and body pain , said:
”They attended to us promptly and gave me drugs.”
She wished Oba Kasali a long reign with more impacts
Another beneficiary, Mrs Adenike who commended the initiative, also said:
”I complained of tiredness whenever I am walking and body pain. They checked our blood pressure and ran other tests. I saw a doctor and they gave us drugs.
”I pray that God continues to give Kabiyesi long years to reign very well and stay strong and well!”
